15 MM Vampire Romance Books, Sorted by Who Falls for Who

Halloween is coming, and frankly it does not have to be. Who does not want a small romance between a vampire and a human? Or between two vampires. Or between a vampire and the werewolf his family has been at war with for the last three centuries.

The vampire is my favourite supernatural creature, tied with the ghost, and I am fairly sure I owe that entirely to Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Team Spike, obviously.

So here are the best MM vampire stories I have read, in case you are hunting for the same thing. I already did the werewolves, it was only fair.

The books below are sorted by who falls for who. They go from a gothic novel written in letters to a cozy murder in a bed and breakfast, so the tone shifts a lot from one section to the next. I am French and I blog about MM romance in French first, so if a sentence lands slightly sideways, now you know why.

A Vampire and a Human

The classic pairing, and the one where the two of them are least evenly matched. One of them can break the other by accident, one of them ages, and both of them know it from the first page. They do very different things with that. A couple are funny enough to read in public at your own risk, one is a gothic novel told in letters, and the rest sit somewhere between a murder case and a small town love story.

What Manner of Man

St John Starling

What Manner of Man by St John Starling, gothic MM vampire romance book cover
Gothic Historical Forbidden Slow Burn Epistolary Priest x Vampire

Father Ardelian is young, devout and not remotely equipped for what he is walking into. He is sent to a remote house to look into a matter the church would rather keep quiet, and his host keeps night hours, receives him with unsettling warmth and clearly wants something from him that has nothing to do with prayer. The whole book is told in letters and journal entries, in the direct tradition of Dracula, and the tension sits in what Ardelian is willing to write down about himself once he stops being able to pretend.

What I like Everything reaches you as letters and journal entries, so you get Father Ardelian confessing things he would never say out loud, and his guilt ends up doing as much work as his desire. It stays discreet about the sex too, which makes it far filthier than showing everything would.
Standalone. Blasphemous in the way you want it to be, and the epistolary format is the point rather than a gimmick.

Claiming Marcus

Lords of Discord #1 · Jocelynn Drake

Claiming Marcus by Jocelynn Drake, Lords of Discord book 1, MM vampire romance book cover
Enemies to Lovers Revenge Plot Undercover Hurt/Comfort Grumpy x Sunshine

Vampires slaughtered Ethan’s family sixteen years ago and he has organised his entire adult life around paying them back for it. A job opens up with Marcus Varik, a man Ethan is certain is one of them, and taking it means working from the inside with a knife in his pocket. The problem is Marcus: shy, awkward, protective, two hundred years old and a very long way from the monster Ethan came to kill. The revenge plan does not survive many weeks of him being kind.

What I like Great chemistry between the two MCs, and a vampire world with real thought behind it: a hierarchy, its politics, a clan with its own rules. More spice than angst, and very easy to sink into.
The series follows a different Varik brother each time, and ends with a visit to the whole clan. Betrayal, music, heartbreak and a raven called Ozzie.

Don’t Feed the Vampire

Coastal Creatures #1 · Grae Bryan

Don't Feed the Vampire by Grae Bryan, Coastal Creatures book 1, MM vampire romance book cover
Fated Mates Small Town Hurt/Comfort Explicit Neurodivergent MC Virgin Hero

Riley was turned as a child, which left him hungrier and more fractured than other vampires, so he lives in the woods and keeps well away from anyone he might hurt. His mothers think a mate would settle him, except nobody is sure he has one. Then a baker moves to town smelling like the single best thing that has ever happened to him, and the question becomes whether Riley can hold himself together long enough to court a man properly. Seth, for his part, has always put family and baked goods ahead of romance and cannot explain why this too quiet, too beautiful boy keeps turning up at his door.

What I like A good mix of romance and smut, and definitely heavy on the smut. Great secondary cast too, Riley’s two moms and Violet especially, and the writing flows.
Content warnings: past child abuse, human trafficking, graphic violence, mental trauma.
First of a series where each book follows a different couple. HEA, no cliffhanger.

Fangs & Fur

Moonfell Vamps #1 · Kennedy Esther

Fangs and Fur by Kennedy Esther, Moonfell Vamps book 1, MM vampire romance book cover
Roommates Insta Love Explicit Possessive Hero Found Family Age Gap

Noah is running from a toxic ex and a life that never felt like it belonged to him, so when a single room comes up in a mountain town he has never heard of, he takes it without asking questions. His roommate Xander works impossible hours, disappears before sunrise and is far too attractive to be entirely human. Moonfell has cozy cafes, a very pretty forest and a growing list of people who have gone missing, and whatever is out there in the trees has caught Noah’s scent. Saving him means Xander facing the thing he is most afraid of, and Noah deciding what he is willing to become.

What I like Nyx and Pumpkin, the two cats, steal every scene they turn up in. Cozy and spicy at once, the two MCs actually talk to each other instead of spending the book on a misunderstanding, and the spooky scenes are properly atmospheric.
Content warnings: supernatural horror elements, trauma and recovery, injury, possession. Not a dark romance, but it commits to the spooky.
Moonfell Vamps are standalones with a shared cast, best read in order. Cat daddies and motorbikes included.

Bite Marks & Broken Hearts

The Killigrew Street Case Files #1 · TJ Rose

Bite Marks and Broken Hearts by TJ Rose, Killigrew Street Case Files book 1, MM vampire romance book cover
Slow Burn Found Family Touch Starved Hurt/Comfort Urban Fantasy Mystery

Flynn leaves Ireland in the middle of the night for London, gets dragged into an alley by a demon and comes out of it marked, with dark magic growing in his chest and something planning to come back and collect. His rescuer is tall, dark, dressed about two centuries out of date and allergic to daylight. Sebastián is five hundred years old, he runs Killigrew Street to keep the city’s supernatural underside in order, and his own rules say nothing about locking stray Irish boys in the hotel. Flynn throws himself at every danger going and Sebastián keeps catching him.

What I like Sebastián is not the invincible vampire we usually get. Five centuries of guilt, a hunger that genuinely costs him, and Flynn is often the one doing the comforting rather than the other way round. The team around them is half the pleasure, zombie ferret included.
Content warnings: past assault, off page but discussed, and PTSD.
The Killigrew Street books are standalones with a shared team and plot threads that run across the series, so start here.

The Good Vampire’s Guide to Blood & Boyfriends

Jamie D’Amato

The Good Vampire's Guide to Blood and Boyfriends by Jamie D'Amato, queer YA vampire rom-com book cover
Young Adult Rom-Com College Mental Health Found Family Closed Door

Brennan is nineteen, back at Sturbridge University after a suicide attempt, and determined to look like someone who has his life together. Turning into a vampire was not part of the plan. Things get properly complicated when Cole, the library boy half the campus has a crush on, catches him drinking from a stolen blood bag and turns out to be completely fine about keeping the secret. Between vampire puberty, a clan of self-declared good vampires and a missing student, Brennan has to work out how much of himself he gets to keep.

What I like The mental health writing is handled with real care and it is what stayed with me. Cole is adorable, the good vampires and their club meetings are very funny, and the diary entries and texts scattered through it are a nice touch. Maybe a few too many Twilight jokes.
Content warnings: suicide attempt and suicidal ideation, depression and panic attacks, a narcissistic parent.
Young adult, so the romance stays closed door. Sold as Heartstopper meets Buffy, and the Heartstopper half is the one it delivers on.

How to Vex a Vampire

VRC: Vampire Related Crimes #1 · Alice Winters

How to Vex a Vampire by Alice Winters, VRC book 1, funny MM vampire romance book cover
Humour Grumpy x Sunshine Forced Partnership Murder Mystery Workplace

Finn is the first human ever hired into a vampire only detective unit, and his partner Marcus, several centuries old and permanently unimpressed, would like him gone by the end of the week. Finn talks constantly, takes almost nothing seriously and is under Marcus’s skin within days. What Finn has not mentioned is why he really transferred: somebody is after him, and a unit full of vampires is the safest place he could think of. The comedy is broad and the banter does not let up, and then the case turns into a genuine threat to the alliance between humans and vampires.

What I like Much more than a fun read. The banter never stops but the characters have real depth underneath, Finn is a disabled MC nobody treats as fragile, and there is enough action that I never got bored for a second. And the audiobook is a must listen for me!
This one closes its own case, with one thread left hanging for book two, and the series carries on from there.

Just the Pool Boy at Vampire Mansion

Ariana Nash

Just the Pool Boy at Vampire Mansion by Ariana Nash, funny MM vampire romance book cover
Humour Murder Mystery Ex-Con Found Family Urban Fantasy

Owen’s rent is scarier than the rumours about Witherborne Mansion, so he takes the job, cleans the pool and promises himself he will not get involved in whatever the family has going on. Then he meets Theo, the party-boy vampire heir whose brother wants him dead and whose mother cares more about her political career than either of her sons. Then a body turns up in the pool, which makes it Owen’s business in the most literal sense. He is the only human in a house full of vampires, and the Miami neighbours are worse than the residents.

What I like Another fun one, and the original plot is what made me pick it up. Light on the smut, heavy on the humour, and I love Ariana Nash’s writing, she rarely lets me down.
Pitched at readers of the SOS Hotel series, same fast and chaotic register. Bisexual disaster vampire, touch starved ex-con, found family of the toxic variety. First of a series, so expect a happy for now rather than a full HEA.

Two Vampires

Nobody has to explain anything here, and that changes the whole shape of the book. There is no secret to keep, so the space fills up with politics instead: courts, bloodlines, arranged marriages, rituals older than either of them, and two people with centuries of habits trying to make room for each other.

Lore and Lust

Lore and Lust #1 · Karla Nikole

Lore and Lust by Karla Nikole, MM vampire romance book cover
Vampire x Vampire Slow Burn Opposites Attract Hurt/Comfort Japan

Haruka Hirano is an elite purebred vampire in the twenty first century, and he has been going through the motions of a life he stopped caring about a long time ago. An old ritual obliges him to meet another purebred, which he expects to survive the way he survives everything else. The man who turns up is warm, open and largely unbothered by the rules Haruka has built his existence around, and being near him is like standing too close to the sun. The world here runs on lineage and lore rather than hunger, and the burn is properly slow.

What I like A real slow burn for once, the kind where Haruka and Nino build a friendship first and the smallest touch ends up costing something. The vampire world gets assembled piece by piece instead of being explained all at once, and the feeding scenes are as sensual as the sex. Low on drama though, so come for the atmosphere more than the action.
Book one of three, in a world where every kind of love is treated as equal.

Oliver

Vampires of Eden #1 · Karla Nikole

Oliver by Karla Nikole, Vampires of Eden book 1, MM vampire romance book cover
Arranged Marriage Age Gap Coming of Age Slow Burn Aristocracy

Oliver James Blakeley is young, titled and engaged to a man he did not choose, in a vampire society that runs on rigid custom and on his father in particular. He has never been asked what he wants and has mostly stopped expecting to be. While the wedding is being organised around him he meets a vampire with completely different ideas about how any of this ought to work, and the book turns into a slow account of what it costs to want something else. Sophisticated, and the real subject is his emancipation.

What I like Age gap and arranged marriage, which for me is the perfect combination. Very good writing, and I loved both MCs: Aries never pushes Oliver, he just makes him realise he is allowed to choose for himself.
Content warnings: parental abuse and coercion, forced engagement, a mating ceremony performed in front of witnesses.
First of the Vampires of Eden series, set in the same authorial universe of courtly vampires as Lore and Lust.

Dead & Breakfast

A Dead & Breakfast Mystery #1 · Kat Hillis & Rosiee Thor

Dead and Breakfast by Kat Hillis and Rosiee Thor, cozy MM vampire mystery book cover
Cozy Mystery Established Couple Humour Small Town Found Family

Arthur and Sal are a completely ordinary married couple who happen to be vampires and who run a bed and breakfast in Trident Falls. Sunscreen, garlic in the kitchen, excellent pastries, no trouble with anyone. Then the mayor is found dead in their begonias with two neat holes in his neck, and the only two vampires in town become the only two suspects worth arresting. Clearing their names means investigating it themselves, with a werewolf barista and an elf coroner helping more or less on purpose.

What I like The cozy mystery side is exactly what I wanted, and a couple who have already been together for decades is rare enough to be worth pointing out. Arthur is the steady one, Sal is pure drama, and the whole thing is a very fun read. The murder is not the hardest to solve, but that is not really the point.
Cozy end of the genre. The couple is already together, so the tension is all in the case.

The Vampire’s Hunter: Part One

Supernatural Lovers #3 · Alexa Piper

The Vampire's Hunter Part One by Alexa Piper, Supernatural Lovers book 3, MM vampire romance book cover
Hurt/Comfort Survivor MC Slow Healing Caretaking Urban Fantasy

Raven survived, but he did not come back the same. His captor turned him, so on top of everything he lived through he now has to work out how to drink blood and how to exist afterwards. Maxim is a powerful vampire hunter, a vampire himself and well regarded in supernatural society, and Raven cannot make sense of why a man like that would put himself between Raven and anything. Every time Raven lashes out and regrets it an hour later, Maxim is still standing there. Most of the book is about Raven finding his footing.

What I like This one deserves far more love than it gets. Maxim is eccentric and endlessly patient, the romance is very slow but that makes sense with the story, and the couples from the earlier books are still around in the background.
Content warnings: aftermath of captivity and abuse, heavy hurt/comfort throughout.
This is Part One and the story continues in the next volume.

Read these two first

Books one and two of Supernatural Lovers follow a different couple and are not vampire romances, so they are not on this list as such. Raven’s story starts inside them, though, and Part One assumes you were there for it.

The Doctor's Wolf Part One by Alexa Piper, Supernatural Lovers book 1, MM paranormal romance book cover The Doctor's Wolf Part Two by Alexa Piper, Supernatural Lovers book 2, MM paranormal romance book cover

A Vampire and a Werewolf

Two species that have been told to hate each other since before either character was born, which means the enemies to lovers work is already done on page one. What these have in common is that the couple gets there long before their families do, and the fun is in watching a pack and a clan try to negotiate around them. If this is your corner of the genre, the werewolf list is right next door.

Adopt a Vampire

AJ Sherwood

Adopt a Vampire by AJ Sherwood, MM vampire and werewolf romance book cover
Found Family Humour Caretaking Cinnamon Roll Shifters

Jesse has been a vampire for about five minutes, he is starving, and he has just been spotted by two werewolves. His options are running, fighting, or asking very politely for something to eat. Barrett, alpha of the local pack, could hand him over to the vampire clan and be done with it, and instead decides to keep him. Most of the book is a pack working out how you actually feed a newborn vampire, plus the discovery that werewolf courting rituals do not translate across species at all.

What I like A great story and a fast one, since it is a novella. Plenty of humour, a real sense of found family, and a lot of love around Jesse. Almost no steam on the page though, so go in knowing that.
Crossover with the Unholy Trifecta world. Short, extremely soft, and the hacker friends turn up.

Fake Dates and Fanged Mistakes

Fanged Mistakes #1 · Alice Winters

Fake Dates and Fanged Mistakes by Alice Winters, MM vampire and werewolf romance book cover
Fake Dating Humour Grumpy x Sunshine Explicit Enemies to Lovers

A vampire who kills people for a living and would prefer that nobody spoke to him ever gets talked into a fake relationship with a werewolf art teacher who has never let a silence sit unfilled. The werewolf wants everyone to get along, which is exactly the wrong ambition to have around this particular vampire. They have to be convincing in public, they are terrible at it, and the swordsmanship is much better than the premise suggests. Alice Winters at her most over the top.

What I like Hilarious, this author really knows how to make me laugh. And the story holds up underneath the comedy: Julian and Casimir are proper characters and the investigation is a real one. I wanted the full package, laughs included, without having to think too hard, and that is what I got.
First of the Fanged Mistakes series, separate from her VRC books.

Love Bites, Vol. 1

A WEBTOON Unscrolled Graphic Novel · Alicia Wallace, illustrated by Anzaitea

Love Bites Vol 1 by Alicia Wallace, WEBTOON vampire and werewolf graphic novel cover
Graphic Novel Young Adult Forbidden Love Star Crossed Webtoon

Kieran has been raised on one rule: stay away from werewolves. Mason is the Alpha’s son, which makes him the exact person Kieran should not be kissing behind everyone’s back. What starts as inherited disdain turns into fascination after one kiss, and then into a secret that gets harder to keep with every meeting. Kieran’s family is extremist about the whole thing, the silver blades are being sharpened, and the two of them have to decide whether this is worth standing up for in public.

What I like The art is very pretty, I really like it. The story is fun too, nothing angsty.
Print graphic novel, no Kindle edition. The leads are teenagers, so it reads younger than the rest of this list. This first volume covers chapters 1 to 21 of the webcomic and stops on a cliffhanger.

You can read the novel too

Same story as a prose novel, originally the webcomic Bite Me, from Wattpad to WEBTOON.

Bite Me by Alicia Wallace, MM vampire and werewolf novel book cover

A Vampire and a Witch

Here the other half of the couple has power of his own, which evens things out considerably. A witch can curse you and a mage can drown you, so the vampire stops being the only dangerous person in the room. These two lean into magic systems rather than bloodlines.

His Eternal Temptation

Bound in Blood #1 · Colette Rivera

His Eternal Temptation by Colette Rivera, Bound in Blood book 1, MM vampire and witch romance book cover
Enemies to Lovers Forced Proximity Hurt/Comfort Fated Mates Witches Light Kink

Rowan runs Shearwater Landing, and depending on who you ask he is either a ruthless vampire or the only person protecting everyone the town would rather forget. Being both means knowing exactly who to keep outside his walls, and giving his heart to nobody. Lane is a witch who was once sent to seduce him as a spy, and who now turns up at his door half dead from a curse, spending what could be his last breath on a warning. Rowan saves him, and the curse binds them: more than a few feet apart and Lane starts dying again.

What I like Delicious angst, and a mystery with proper twists. The romance runs on pure tension: two enemies who cannot stand each other, want each other anyway, and have no choice but to cooperate.
Bound in Blood is a set of interconnected standalones that can be read in any order. It sits in the same world as the author’s Lovers of the Damned series, which fills in Rowan’s history without being required reading.

Locked In Love

Lark Taylor

Locked In Love by Lark Taylor, MM vampire and mage romance novella cover
Novella Fated Mates Matchmaking Explicit Magic

Angels and demons meet their fated mate and spend eternity being insufferable about it. Vampires do not get that, and Ash has the last relationship to prove it, so he has concluded that his own taste in men cannot be trusted and handed the job over to Cupid. What Cupid produces, waiting outside an escape room, is a tall Scottish water mage who looks like an administrative error in Ash’s favour. Then they get locked in a room together to find out whether Cupid is better at this than Fate.

What I like An easy, quick, great read. The escape room as a first date is a brilliant idea, very well handled, and even in so few pages Ash and Lochlan feel like real characters.
A 14k novella, originally published in the H2H Paranormal Anthology. Complete standalone with an HEA, nothing added since.

My Top 3 MM Vampire Books

They all earned their place here, I love every one of them. If someone made me keep three, these are the three.

1

His Eternal Temptation · Colette Rivera

The angst is delicious and the mystery keeps turning over on itself. Two enemies tied together by a curse, pulled towards each other and left with no choice but to cooperate, is exactly the setup I want.

2

The Vampire’s Hunter: Part One · Alexa Piper

The one here that deserves far more attention than it gets. Maxim is eccentric and endlessly patient, the romance takes all the time it needs, and the couples from the earlier books are still around them.

3

Fake Dates and Fanged Mistakes · Alice Winters

Because it made me laugh from one end to the other without ever letting the story slip. Good characters, a real investigation, and nothing that asks you to think too hard.

MM Vampire Romance Books: Frequently Asked Questions

Which MM vampire book should I start with?

If you want to laugh, How to Vex a Vampire. If you want atmosphere and a proper gothic novel, What Manner of Man. If you want fated mates and a small town, Don’t Feed the Vampire. Those three cover most of what people mean when they ask for vampire romance.

Are these books scary?

Mostly no. Fangs & Fur is the one that leans into horror, with something hunting in the woods and a few genuinely unsettling scenes, and What Manner of Man works on dread rather than jump scares. The rest are romance first, and half of them are comedies.

Which ones pair a vampire with a werewolf?

Adopt a Vampire, Fake Dates and Fanged Mistakes and Love Bites, all three in the section above. If that is the pairing you came for, there is a whole list of MM werewolf romance books as well.

Do I have to read the series in order?

Every book here is the first of its series except The Vampire’s Hunter, which is book three of Supernatural Lovers and follows characters introduced earlier. His Eternal Temptation and Don’t Feed the Vampire belong to series of interconnected standalones, so you can start anywhere. Fangs & Fur is technically standalone but reads better in order.

Which of these are on audio?

Quite a few of them do. Where an Audible edition exists, the button sits right under the book, next to the Amazon one.

Are vampire romances a good Halloween read?

They are the easiest one to reach for, because the season does the atmosphere for you. For October I would go gothic with What Manner of Man, or spooky with Fangs & Fur. If you want the pumpkins without the dread, Dead & Breakfast is a murder mystery you can read with the lights off.

Are any of them short?

Locked In Love is a 14k novella and Adopt a Vampire is a quick, light read. Love Bites is a graphic novel, so it goes fast too. Everything else is a full length book.

Before You Go

I hope you found something for you in there. There is a bit of everything on this list, from the very serious to the completely unhinged, and that is exactly why I keep coming back to vampires.

If you have a favourite I have missed, tell me. I will read it.
