15 MM Vampire Romance Books, Sorted by Who Falls for Who

Father Ardelian is young, devout and not remotely equipped for what he is walking into. He is sent to a remote house to look into a matter the church would rather keep quiet, and his host keeps night hours, receives him with unsettling warmth and clearly wants something from him that has nothing to do with prayer. The whole book is told in letters and journal entries, in the direct tradition of Dracula, and the tension sits in what Ardelian is willing to write down about himself once he stops being able to pretend.

Vampires slaughtered Ethan’s family sixteen years ago and he has organised his entire adult life around paying them back for it. A job opens up with Marcus Varik, a man Ethan is certain is one of them, and taking it means working from the inside with a knife in his pocket. The problem is Marcus: shy, awkward, protective, two hundred years old and a very long way from the monster Ethan came to kill. The revenge plan does not survive many weeks of him being kind.

Moonfell has cozy cafes, a very pretty forest and a growing list of people who have gone missing, and whatever is out there in the trees has caught Noah’s scent. Saving him means Xander facing the thing he is most afraid of, and Noah deciding what he is willing to become.

Flynn leaves Ireland in the middle of the night for London, gets dragged into an alley by a demon and comes out of it marked, with dark magic growing in his chest and something planning to come back and collect. His rescuer is tall, dark, dressed about two centuries out of date and allergic to daylight. Sebastián is five hundred years old, he runs Killigrew Street to keep the city’s supernatural underside in order, and his own rules say nothing about locking stray Irish boys in the hotel. Flynn throws himself at every danger going and Sebastián keeps catching him.

Brennan is nineteen, back at Sturbridge University after a suicide attempt, and determined to look like someone who has his life together. Turning into a vampire was not part of the plan. Things get properly complicated when Cole, the library boy half the campus has a crush on, catches him drinking from a stolen blood bag and turns out to be completely fine about keeping the secret. Between vampire puberty, a clan of self-declared good vampires and a missing student, Brennan has to work out how much of himself he gets to keep.

Finn is the first human ever hired into a vampire only detective unit, and his partner Marcus, several centuries old and permanently unimpressed, would like him gone by the end of the week. Finn talks constantly, takes almost nothing seriously and is under Marcus’s skin within days. What Finn has not mentioned is why he really transferred: somebody is after him, and a unit full of vampires is the safest place he could think of. The comedy is broad and the banter does not let up, and then the case turns into a genuine threat to the alliance between humans and vampires.

Owen’s rent is scarier than the rumours about Witherborne Mansion, so he takes the job, cleans the pool and promises himself he will not get involved in whatever the family has going on. Then he meets Theo, the party-boy vampire heir whose brother wants him dead and whose mother cares more about her political career than either of her sons. Then a body turns up in the pool, which makes it Owen’s business in the most literal sense. He is the only human in a house full of vampires, and the Miami neighbours are worse than the residents.

Haruka Hirano is an elite purebred vampire in the twenty first century, and he has been going through the motions of a life he stopped caring about a long time ago. An old ritual obliges him to meet another purebred, which he expects to survive the way he survives everything else. The man who turns up is warm, open and largely unbothered by the rules Haruka has built his existence around, and being near him is like standing too close to the sun. The world here runs on lineage and lore rather than hunger, and the burn is properly slow.

Oliver James Blakeley is young, titled and engaged to a man he did not choose, in a vampire society that runs on rigid custom and on his father in particular. He has never been asked what he wants and has mostly stopped expecting to be. While the wedding is being organised around him he meets a vampire with completely different ideas about how any of this ought to work, and the book turns into a slow account of what it costs to want something else. Sophisticated, and the real subject is his emancipation.

Arthur and Sal are a completely ordinary married couple who happen to be vampires and who run a bed and breakfast in Trident Falls. Sunscreen, garlic in the kitchen, excellent pastries, no trouble with anyone. Then the mayor is found dead in their begonias with two neat holes in his neck, and the only two vampires in town become the only two suspects worth arresting. Clearing their names means investigating it themselves, with a werewolf barista and an elf coroner helping more or less on purpose.

Arthur and Sal come back for a second case in Summer Coven.

Raven survived, but he did not come back the same. His captor turned him, so on top of everything he lived through he now has to work out how to drink blood and how to exist afterwards. Maxim is a powerful vampire hunter, a vampire himself and well regarded in supernatural society, and Raven cannot make sense of why a man like that would put himself between Raven and anything. Every time Raven lashes out and regrets it an hour later, Maxim is still standing there. Most of the book is about Raven finding his footing.

Read these two first

Books one and two of Supernatural Lovers follow a different couple and are not vampire romances, so they are not on this list as such. Raven’s story starts inside them, though, and Part One assumes you were there for it.

Jesse has been a vampire for about five minutes, he is starving, and he has just been spotted by two werewolves. His options are running, fighting, or asking very politely for something to eat. Barrett, alpha of the local pack, could hand him over to the vampire clan and be done with it, and instead decides to keep him. Most of the book is a pack working out how you actually feed a newborn vampire, plus the discovery that werewolf courting rituals do not translate across species at all.

A vampire who kills people for a living and would prefer that nobody spoke to him ever gets talked into a fake relationship with a werewolf art teacher who has never let a silence sit unfilled. The werewolf wants everyone to get along, which is exactly the wrong ambition to have around this particular vampire. They have to be convincing in public, they are terrible at it, and the swordsmanship is much better than the premise suggests. Alice Winters at her most over the top.

Rowan saves him, and the curse binds them: more than a few feet apart and Lane starts dying again.

Angels and demons meet their fated mate and spend eternity being insufferable about it. Vampires do not get that, and Ash has the last relationship to prove it, so he has concluded that his own taste in men cannot be trusted and handed the job over to Cupid. What Cupid produces, waiting outside an escape room, is a tall Scottish water mage who looks like an administrative error in Ash’s favour. Then they get locked in a room together to find out whether Cupid is better at this than Fate.
